Plugged in: Hart Library opens new electric-vehicle charging stations

Posted

Three new electric-vehicle charging stations, capable of charging six cars, are now operational at the John C. Hart Memorial Library.

The ChargePoint stations are pay-per-use. Drivers can pay through a ChargePoint account or by credit card. Visitors can also access the parking lot’s Wi-Fi while charging.

The project had been in the works for several years and was funded through county and state grants, with Town Board approval.

The Town Board unanimously approved a Westchester County grant in October 2025 to install six charging ports at the library. After residents and a Mohegan Lake fire commissioner raised concerns about the original location near the road, the town moved the chargers farther back into the parking lot.

The relocation required engineering firm INF Associates to redesign the plans, delaying the project, according to Library Director Yvonne Cech. The town agreed to cover up to $15,000 of the $30,000 in additional costs, with the county funding the remainder.

Town Comptroller Gennelle MacNeil took over as project lead in mid-February. She did not respond to an email seeking further comment about the installation timeline.
