YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y.— The Yorktown Town Board has joined communities nationwide in recognizing October as LGBTQ+ History Month, honoring the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and other LGBTQ+ individuals throughout history.
The proclamation, read by Councilman Sergio Esposito on Oct. 7, highlights the community’s impact on the arts, sciences, politics, education, business, and public service, often achieved in the face of discrimination and adversity.
“The LGBTQ+ community has made significant contributions to the arts, sciences, politics, education, business, public service, and every aspect of our society, often in the face of discrimination and adversity,” the proclamation said and added, "by acknowledging the history and heritage of the LGBTQ+ community, we affirm the importance of diversity, inclusion, and human rights, and we commit to building a more just and equitable future for all; and
The board encouraged residents to honor the achievements of the LGBTQ+ community, stand against discrimination in all its forms, and continue working toward a more inclusive and welcoming society.
