Yorktown’s Comprehensive Plan Committee is reviewing the town’s 2010 comprehensive plan and identifying issues to address in an update intended to guide growth and development over the next 10 to 20 years.
The committee has reviewed the existing plan and identified housing needs, development pressures, traffic, infrastructure, commercial land use and sustainability as key areas for further study. Members also want to examine how the town can adapt existing commercial spaces for new uses while balancing growth with preservation.
The town’s comprehensive plan establishes long-term goals and policy guidance for land use, zoning, transportation, open space, community facilities and other municipal priorities. The current plan’s development process began in 2002, and the plan was adopted in 2010.
The committee recommended that the town issue a request for proposals (RFP) for a consultant to gather data, solicit public input and recommend policy revisions before drafting an updated plan to guide the town over the next decade to two decades. The Town Board would ultimately review and adopt the plan.
Planning Director Robyn Steinberg said she expects to have a draft RFP ready in about a month.
