MAHOPAC, N.Y.—A Walden woman faces felony charges for allegedly passing a bad check at the Mahopac branch of the Hudson Valley Credit Union.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, officers received a complaint from a Hudson Valley Credit Union investigator on Nov. 15 alleging that a fraudulent check for more than $8,000 had been cashed at HVCU’s Mahopac branch.
The Sheriff's Dept.’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation was “quickly able to develop a suspect based on surveillance footage and other evidence,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a press release.
THE PCSO said its investigation led to 20-year-old Walden resident Xiomara Ortiz, who turned herself in on Nov. 20. She was arrested and charged with first-degree possession of a forged instrument and third-degree grand larceny, both felonies.
Ortiz was arraigned before Judge Daniel Miller in the Town of Carmel Court and released on her own recognizance to appear at a future court date.
