Two for Timone! Somers volunteer earns second 'Woman of Distinction' award

SOMERS, N.Y. - Somers’ own Margaret “Meg” Timone has really been racking up some well-deserved accolades lately.

In May, she was honored as a “Woman of Distinction” by state Assemblyman Matt Slater for her exceptional leadership and community service.

More recently, Timone was recognized as - again - a “Woman of Distinction” by Congressman Mike Lawler.

(Timone had missed the formal ceremony so the WOD proclamation was presented to her at the Town Board’s Thursday, June 11, meeting by Lawler representative Jacob Wantroba.)

To top it off, town Supervisor Robert Scorrano presented her that evening with a proclamation declaring Saturday, June 13, "Meg Timone Day" in Somers.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have you here in Somers since I can remember. You’re a constant staple and someone who always steps up to the plate when something is going on,” Scorrano said, adding: “We appreciate everything you’ve done.”

Timone’s husband, Denis, a retired Somers town justice and a member of Westchester County’s 2025 Senior Hall of Fame, proudly looked on from the audience.

In all the excitement of picture-taking, Timone’s speech was unfortunately sidelined but she shared what she had intended to say with Halston Media later.

Thanking the town and the board for the recognition, she said her interest in local history had led to a “decades-long involvement” with both the Somers Historical Society and the town’s Landmarks Committee.

Working with the historical society continues, Timone said, to be one of her “passions.”

Referring to the WOD award from Lawler, she added: “Being selected to represent the town of Somers is a very meaningful honor for me and I am very appreciative of this acknowledgement. So, thank you.”

According to the WOD proclamation, Timone has “demonstrated a deep and lasting commitment to her community through years of dedicated volunteer service and civic engagement” and has “played an active and meaningful role in preserving and promoting local history through her involvement with the Somers Historical Society helping to safeguard the town’s heritage for future generations.”

She also has participated in “numerous town-wide initiatives” and has “consistently contributed her talent, energy, and leadership to strengthen community life and foster civic  pride throughout Somers,” it read.

“Her tireless volunteerism and steadfast dedication have made her an essential and valued contributor to the culture, history, and spirit of her community,” Lawler concluded, naming her a WOD on the behalf of the residents of the 17th CD.
