Unsung Heroes of Human Rights Event

For their 4th annual celebration of the International Day of Tolerance, the Hudson Valley Human Rights and Holocaust Commission is sponsoring an event open to all middle and high school students in the area.

History is replete with examples of people who, at great personal risk or sacrifice, took steps to advance the human rights of those in need. Some historic tales, such as those of Harriet Tubman and Oskar Schindler, are well known. Yet, others like the work of Pakistani Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai have received less popular acclaim. Thee HVHR&HC is sponsoring an opportunity for local students to shine a light on some of our lesser known heroes of human rights, asking students to discover, research and educate our community about the unsung heroes.

Students are encouraged to introduce an "Unsung Hero of Human Rights" by preparing a work of art, written essay, poem, song, dance, video, or any form of artistic expression by submitting their work to the Commission by Nov. 10. The top 3 students will present their 'Unsung Hero' to the community by showcasing and explaining their work at an event celebrating the International Day of Tolerance at the Hammond Museum on Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. For submissions or questions, please contact Susan Baum Moyer at hvhrhc@icloud.com.

Westchester Book Festival Returns Nov. 7

Following the great success of its inaugural festival, the Westchester Book Festival will return on Saturday, Nov.  7, bringing an expanded roster of acclaimed authors, twice as many venues, and double the number of literary sessions. The festival was founded to celebrate books, literacy, and the power of storytelling by connecting readers with some of today's most compelling authors.

Building on the momentum of last year's sold-out event, the 2026 festival will feature award-winning novelists, journalists, historians, and cultural commentators in conversations spanning fiction, memoir, politics, history, and current affairs.

Luke Bellas: Immersive Worlds of Imagination

The Center for the Digital Arts Gallery at SUNY Westchester Peekskill is thrilled to present Luke Bellas, a dynamic and visually captivating exhibition on view through Dec. 4.

This vibrant exhibition spotlights the work of emerging local artist Luke Bellas, whose bold paintings bring to life wildly imaginative characters inspired by the rich visual language of video games.
