BEDFORD, N.Y. - As autumn starts to reveal itself, the Hopp Ground Garden Club of Bedford is diligently preparing its garden beds for their seasonal rest. For the dedicated members of this club, the work of civic beautification is a year-round commitment. Since starting in 1975, the club has played an integral role in enhancing the natural beauty of our beloved town through this work. With their 50th anniversary on the horizon, the club is more focused than ever on this mission.
The Hopp Ground Garden Club takes great pride in caring for six public gardens throughout the Town of Bedford and Mount Kisco: Bedford Village Town Park, Bedford Hills Town Park, Katonah Village Library, John Jay Homestead, A-Home and the Katonah Memorial House. Every changing season brings its own challenges, but club members embrace them with enthusiasm and a hands-on approach. The gardens are constantly evolving, reflecting a growing appreciation of native plants and ensuring seasonal interest throughout the year. Alice Salvatore, long serving member and Chair of Civic Beautification for Hopp Ground says “It has been great when we all come together to create a beautiful environment for people to enjoy. Thanks to our members for their creativity and hard work.”
Fortunately, there is strong collaborative teamwork with Bedford Recreation and Parks which helps to make all of this possible.
“We are thrilled to continue our long partnership with Hopp Ground, which has expanded to include other beautification projects. Recent examples are the new plant installations at the two ‘Welcome to Katonah’ signs, creating a more attractive and inviting entry to our town.” says Chris Soi, Superintendent of Bedford Recreation and Parks.
The club’s efforts go far beyond nurturing these gardens. Members participate in educational workshops and lectures throughout the year. In addition to improving their own knowledge, members strive to engage with the community by promoting sustainable gardening practices and inspiring a love of gardening.
