Spring is here, and in Putnam County, the season arrives with a fresh lineup of family-friendly experiences, local history, and community-driven events that make it an ideal time to get out and explore.
There’s something especially magical about spring on the farm, and this year, Tilly Foster Farm has an irresistible new star attraction. On February 11th, Mama B gave birth to a Holstein/Scottish Highland heifer, and the young calf is already delighting visitors. Bonding closely with her mom and big brother Gil, the baby is thriving—growing quickly and often seen joyfully running around the pasture. It’s the kind of simple, heartwarming scene that captures the essence of the season.
For families, a visit here is more than just seeing animals—it’s an experience. Parents with young children can pack a picnic, wander the scenic grounds, and enjoy an up-close look at farm life in a relaxed setting. Those planning a visit are encouraged to park in the designated visitor area and take a short walk down to the pasture, where the new calf and her family can often be spotted enjoying the fresh spring air.
The farm continues to grow as a community destination. As the future home of the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County, it’s evolving into an even richer resource for residents. Already, the Putnam County Youth Bureau is based here, bringing programs and events that further activate the space.
One of the highlights of the season is the return of the Youth Business Market, taking place on Sunday, June 14th from 12 pm to 4 pm at the farm. Designed for ages 5 to 17, the market gives young participants the opportunity to learn about business firsthand—exploring the value of a dollar while creating, marketing, and selling their own products and services to the community. It’s a lively, feel-good event that adds even more reason to spend the day at the farm.
