MILAN, N.Y. — A South Salem man was charged with felony drunken driving after New York State Police said he was stopped on the Taconic State Parkway with a child passenger in his vehicle early Saturday morning.

According to state police, Thomas P. Dunn, 49, was pulled over at approximately 1:48 a.m. on June 13 while driving a Chevrolet Suburban northbound on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Milan for a traffic violation.

Troopers reported that Dunn displayed signs of intoxication during the stop. After administering standardized field sobriety tests, police determined he was impaired and took him into custody.

Police said a 10-year-old child was in the vehicle at the time of the stop. The child was later released to a sober third party.

Dunn was transported to State Police Livingston for processing, where he submitted to a chemical breath test that allegedly measured his blood alcohol content at 0.13%, according to authorities.

As a result of the investigation, Dunn was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, commonly known as Leandra’s Law, a Class E felony. He was also charged with driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or more and driving while intoxicated, both unclassified misdemeanors.

Dunn was issued traffic tickets and an appearance ticket directing him to appear in Town of Milan Court on July 2 at 9:30 a.m.
