SOMERS, N.Y. - The Somers community gathered at Bailey Park on Thursday for its annual Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony, honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Carol Cirieco opened the program, followed by an invocation from Father John Lagiovane of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Local first responders led the Pledge of Allegiance, and “Howlin’ Marty” performed the National Anthem on his harmonica.

Town Historian Doris Jane Smith shared remarks, and Supervisor Robert Scorrano delivered the keynote address. Flowers were placed on the memorial benches in memory of Somers residents George Bishop, Richard J. Klares, and Joseph Spor Jr., who perished that day. Spor’s widow, Colleen, and daughters Shannon and Caitlin were in attendance.

The ceremony also featured Dan Simpson’s rendition of “God Bless America” and concluded with a benediction by Rabbi Robbie Weiner of Temple Beth Am.
