SOMERS, N.Y. - A family is asking the Somers community to keep an eye out for a missing kitten who disappeared last week and may have traveled all the way to the Bronx.
Olivia, a 6- to 7-month-old kitten, went missing on Wednesday, Oct. 21, while her family was working at the Somers Storage Center at 259 Route 100.
According to her family, Olivia slipped out of her harness and was last seen crawling underneath their car. No one saw her emerge before the family drove home to the Bronx later that evening.
The family fears that Olivia may still be hiding somewhere near the storage facility or may have traveled underneath the vehicle back to their Bronx neighborhood.
Mechanics inspected the car on a lift two days after her disappearance but found no sign of the kitten.
Olivia, a torbie kitten, has dark tabby markings with brown and orange patches along her back and sides, a cream-colored chin and a distinctive M-shaped marking on her forehead. She was not wearing a collar and is not microchipped.
The family rescued Olivia about a month before her disappearance after finding her outside a burned store in the Bronx.
Now, they are searching for her in both locations.
A live trail camera monitors a food station at the Somers storage facility each night, and the family has distributed flyers to homes surrounding the property. Additional flyers are being posted at businesses in the Bronx, where a family member reported hearing a cat meowing near their building.
Missing pet alerts have also been posted on PawBoost, Pet FBI, Nextdoor and Ring Neighbors.
The family is urging anyone who spots Olivia not to chase her, as she may be frightened. If possible, residents are asked to gently secure her indoors until the family can arrive.
Anyone with information about Olivia's whereabouts is asked to call 212-495-9833 at any time. The family said they will respond immediately to any sightings.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding her disappearance, the family remains determined to bring Olivia home.
