SOMERS, N.Y. - On Monday, Jan. 20, members of the Somers LEOs Club took time to help those in need at the Day of Service winter donation drive.
Working under the motto of “warm hands, warm hearts,” the LEOs were at the Van Tassell House on Route 139, collecting winter coats, hats, gloves, and scarves to support homeless adults, teens, and children throughout Westchester.
Day of Service is observed on Martin Luther King Day, and promotes community volunteerism in honor of Dr. King’s legacy. The annual event encourages people to volunteer and embrace civic engagement and community improvement through activities such as food drives, tutoring, and clean-ups.
The winter clothing drive was conceived by Somers High School students Sean Donnelly, Gabe Stor, and Alex Donnelly, and collected more than 30 bags of clothing from the community.
Donations were then given to The Sharing Shelf in Port Chester and Community Center of Northern Westchester.
