Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) hosted his fourth annual Senior Resource Fair in Yorktown at the Jefferson Village Community Center, bringing together local seniors, caregivers and families with organizations and service providers from across the region.
“Each year, our Senior Resource Fair allows me to speak directly with seniors in our community and connect them with organizations that can provide valuable information and assistance,” said Slater. “Having so many resources together in one place makes it easier for seniors, caregivers and families to get their questions answered and learn more about the programs available to them.”
The free event provided attendees with an opportunity to connect directly with organizations offering information and assistance on elder care, Medicare, assisted living, state and county services, Alzheimer’s and memory care and other resources available to seniors and their families.
“Assemblyman Slater's resource fair was so well attended. It is great to have a partner in government like him who helps bring much-needed information to our seniors,” said Yorktown Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman. “Thank you to all who participated in making this a very informative day for our residents.”
The Yorktown fair also featured a prescription medication drop-off, allowing residents to dispose of unused or expired medications safely. Approximately 26 pounds of prescription medications were collected during the event for safe disposal.
“Collecting 26 pounds of unused and expired medications shows just how important it is to make safe disposal options accessible in our communities,” Slater continued. “Getting these medications out of our homes helps prevent misuse and ensures they are disposed of properly. Thank you to everyone who took advantage of this service and to all of our participating organizations for helping make this year’s Yorktown fair another success.”
Slater has hosted a Senior Resource Fair for the past three years, and in response to growing demand, expanded the series this year by adding a new location in Mahopac.
Assemblyman Matt Slater represents the 94th Assembly District, which includes parts of Putnam and Westchester counties, including the towns of Kent, Patterson, Putnam Valley, Carmel, Southeast, Somers and Yorktown, as well as the village of Brewster.
