NORTH SALEM, N.Y. The North Salem Central School District is currently searching for a new director of pupil personnel services after placing Superintendent Dr. Duncan Wilson on administrative leave earlier this year.
The position of pupil personnel services director has been held by Dr. Adam VanDerStuyf, who had also been filling the superintendent role since July. He is expected to continue serving as the acting superintendent. The district posted the opening for the director position, offering a salary of $195,000 to $200,000, with a deadline for applications on Oct. 1 and a tentative start date of Oct. 15. Despite concerns from the community and parents about the strain of performing both jobs simultaneously, the school board has expressed confidence in VanDerStuyf's ability to manage both roles, though they have refrained from commenting further due to legal constraints.
Community members have sought clarification on Wilson’s status, including whether he remains on the district’s payroll and if the board intends to reinstate him. At recent school board meetings, parents voiced concerns about the lack of transparency regarding Wilson's administrative leave and the progress of the superintendent search. While the board has remained silent on the matter, parents, like Leekei Ellicott, emphasized the need for clearer communication, particularly regarding the district’s financial obligations and the search for a permanent superintendent. As of now, North Salem News has not been able to confirm whether Wilson is still being compensated.
