MAHOPAC, N.Y.—Charges are pending against a Mahopac man who allegedly showed up highly intoxicated in the backyard of a neighbor’s home in the middle of the night in what was initially thought to be a burglary attempt.

On Wednesday, March 26, at around 2:20 a.m., Carmel police responded to a call of a possible burglary attempt in progress at a residence on Wayacross Road in Mahopac.

While investigating, officers received a second call from a neighboring Archer Road resident who reported a man in his backyard. Officers were then able to apprehend a 31-year-old resident of Wayacross Road.

CPD investigators said the man appeared highly intoxicated and with the help of Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies, he was transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Police said the suspect did not appear to gain entry into any of the homes in question and charges are pending as the investigation continues.

Carmel Police detectives ask anyone with any additional information regarding the incident to call them at 845-628-1300.
