North Salem woman charged with felony DWI under Leandra’s Law after Southeast crash

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - On April 24, , at approximately 10 p.m., New York State Police in Brewster responded to a report of a property damage motor vehicle crash on Deans Corners Road in the Town of Southeast, following a 911 call from Putnam County.

Troopers identified the driver as Briana Giuliano, 37, of North Salem. According to police, Giuliano exhibited signs of intoxication at the scene and failed standardized field sobriety tests. Further investigation revealed that a 7-year-old child was present in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Giuliano was taken into custody and transported to State Police Brewster for processing, where she provided a breath sample registering a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.20 percent. The child was released to a sober third party.

As a result of the investigation, Giuliano was charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger under Leandra’s Law, as well as aggravated driving while intoxicated (BAC of 0.18 percent or higher), driving while intoxicated, and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.

She was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on May 26.
