Throughout the year, Americans celebrate a variety of holidays — some religious, some federal and others are considered more for their merriment content. hen there are holidays that carry a more serious meaning, such as Memorial Day.
Some people may think of Memorial Day simply as the start of the summer season and the arrival of a three-day weekend. Families with children should try to introduce them to the meaning behind this and other American holidays that can sometimes be taken for granted. It is more than a day of store sales and backyard barbecues.
Certain traditions are associated with Memorial Day, including the proper way to display the American flag. The flag should be “raised briskly to the top of the staff and then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position, where it remains only until noon, then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day.”
If the flag is displayed at night, it should be properly illuminated.
