Mahopac Falls, N.Y. – On Friday, Oct. 25, the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department held a heartfelt dedication ceremony for the newly installed First Responders Memorial at the Mahopac Falls Headquarters. The event was attended by community members, local officials, and representatives from the Carmel Police Department, and Putnam County Sheriff's Office, all celebrating the bravery and dedication of those who ensure our community's safety.
The memorial honors the firefighters, police officers, sheriff's deputies, and emergency medical service personnel who answer every call, day and night. It was crafted by Madelynn Behrendt from Troop 371, whose hard work and commitment to this project were recognized as a significant contribution to the community. She undertook this project as her final step to achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. If Madelynn is successful, she would be Troop 371's third female scout to achieve Eagle since Boy Scouts of America went co-ed.
The ceremony featured local dignitaries and community members, along with a special appearance by Carmel PD K-9 Pietro, which added a unique touch to the gathering.
The memorial itself is a polished granite structure inscribed with the words, "Dedicated to all those who have served our community. We are eternally grateful," alongside the emblems of local first responder organizations.
This memorial will serve as a lasting tribute for years to come, reminding everyone of the bravery and selflessness of those who protect and serve.
