MAHOPAC, N.Y.—The Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department's annual Candy Cane Run is always a festive family event that brings together three red things: firetrucks, sweets, and Santa.
And while the kids along the way get to share the joy of the season, the event also offers the community something else that's just as important: the opportunity to donate to Toys for Tots, the Marine Corps. program that provides gifts to needy children.
In a post announcing this year's run, the MFVFD said: “Join us for a magical morning as our fire trucks parade through the neighborhoods with none other than Santa himself, spreading joy and delight with a flurry of candy canes!"
The festivities are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 21, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
MFVFD said Santa's party starts rolling at 10 a.m. sharp.
“But wait, there's more!” MFVFD's web post added. “This year, we’re excited to partner again with Toys for Tots to spread even more holiday cheer! Bring along new, unwrapped toys to donate as we cruise through your neighborhoods, ensuring that every child can experience the joy of the season.”
According to the Toys for Tots website, most campaigns “assist children up to age 12, but in many local communities, local support is such that the age limit may be extended to 14-16.”
The MFVFD said route details will be available soon on its website, mahopacfallsvfd.com.
“Grab your family, friends, and your camera to capture the enchanting moments as our festive fire trucks and Santa pass by,” the MFVFD said. “Let’s make this year’s Candy Cane Run the most joyous and generous event ever! Mark your calendars, prepare to wave and smile, and get ready for a morning filled with laughter, love, and of course, candy canes!”
If you can't make the Candy Cane run and wish to donate to Toys for Tots, see this list of Putnam County locations. Donations are already being accepted.
