BEDFORD, N.Y. - Alexandra “Allie” Whalen, the Town Board’s choice for town clerk last spring, officially became the people’s choice in Election Day balloting.
Whalen, with 6,173 votes, and David Menken, the longtime town justice who tallied 6,165 votes, ran without opposition.
Whalen was vice president of the Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps last March when the Town Board named her to succeed Town Clark Lisbeth “Boo” Fumagalli, retiring after two decades in the post. Under state law, Whalen could fill that position by appointment only for this year.
Menken, a lawyer in private practice, has served in town government for about two dozen years, almost evenly divided between the Zoning Board of Appeals, where he rose to the chairmanship, and the town’s Justice Court, where he is the senior partner.
