Long time resident of Mount Kisco and retired teacher of Fox Lane High School, Alice C. Yankura passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2026 in UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh at the age of 86.
Born in 1940, Alice was the daughter of the late John Yankura, Jr, and Alice Tudja Yankura. She is survived by her sister, Constance Yankura Beatty, brother John A. Yankura, M.D., and sister-in-law. Dorothy Yankura. She was a beloved aunt to two nephews, four nieces, and 16 great nieces and nephews. She graduated Valedictorian of her Swissvale High School class (Pittsburgh suburb) in 1958 and received her Bachelor of Arts from Chatham College with emphasis on world history and education. She earned her Master's Degree from University of Wichita with same emphasis on world history.
She was a prominent teacher at Fox Lane High School for 30 years from the 1970's through the 1990's. She left her Pittsburgh hometown of Swissvale to live and teach in New York and considered herself a "New Yorker" through and through. At Fox Lane High School, she was part of the school's experimental "School within a School" Honors Program in the 1980's and sponsored an exchange program for students to spend a semester in England and British high schoolers to study at Fox Lane.
In her travels, she fell in love with the beauty of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and purchased a home in Ingonish Beach in 1990 where she spent her summers and retirement years. She fulfilled her life-long passion to teach, to travel, to cross country ski, loved her students at Fox Lane High School, and was an active member of Holy Innocents Roman Catholic Church, Chappaqua, NY. and St. Peter's Catholic Church, Ingonish Beach, Cape Breton, NS. She returned "temporarily" from Cape Breton to Mt. Kisco to Pittsburgh due to declining health.
