Man faces felony DWI charge after arrest in North Salem

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - A Port Chester man is facing a felony DWI charge after New York State Police said he was found intoxicated in a vehicle with a 14-year-old passenger in North Salem.

At approximately 3:40 a.m. on Oct. 4, officers conducted a welfare check on a vehicle parked on the shoulder of Interstate 684 in North Salem.

According to authorities, the driver, identified as Hector Villa, 49, of Port Chester, showed signs of intoxication and was administered standardized field sobriety tests. Further investigation determined that a 14-year-old child was a passenger in the vehicle.

Villa was taken into custody and transported to the State Police barracks in Somers for processing. Police said a chemical breath test showed he had a blood alcohol content of 0.09%.

The child was safely released to a sober third party.

Villa was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger under Leandra’s Law, a Class E felony; driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher, an unclassified misdemeanor; and driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor.

He was issued traffic tickets returnable to North Salem Town Court on Oct. 26.
