MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. - Mount Kisco declared a state of emergency on Wednesday, Nov. 13, and banned all outdoor burning due to the severe dry conditions and the threat of wildfires.
The order’s intent is to protect the health and welfare of residents.
It remains in effect until it is lifted by the village manager’s office.
Failure to obey the order is a criminal offense.
Folks are prohibited from burning any combustible material in an outdoor area. They will also be in violation of the order if they engage in any outdoor activity that would allow flames or sparks that could result in a fire.
Local firefighters, once notified of outdoor burning, will respond to the scene and take immediate action to contain and/or extinguish the fire. Police will also investigate and request immediate compliance with the order.
The order does not apply to activities such as firefighting training or burn operations approved by the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
Banned are outdoor burning of yard waste, household paper products, bonfires, campfires, warming fires, outdoor fireplaces and chimneys, and cooking fires within the village/town boundaries unless authorized by the state DEC or for cooking within a contained natural gas or propane grill.
It would also be a violation – unless authorized by the state DEC – to set fire to any grass, brush, or forest-covered land.
