School board elections should be non-partisan

Dear Editor,

It's about the kids, not politics.

It's disappointing to see overtly partisan political forces trying to influence our community into thinking school board elections are about which political party you belong to.

Some candidates have even been so bold as to appear in ads alongside political logos, positioning themselves as the only candidates available.

It's time to reject the notion that we can't unite as a community, regardless of political affiliation, to serve the best interests of our kids. It's time to focus on practical solutions, not insults and manufactured, culture-war grievances.

I believe the candidates that can best achieve this are Amanda Kandel, Chad Olsen, and Rosalind Gallino.

In their roles as President and Vice President of the school board, Amanda and Chad have unified a previously divided board to unanimously appoint our new Superintendent. They have shown their commitment to facts, data, and putting our children FIRST in their decision-making. Their experience is needed on this board, and they have proven themselves as dedicated professionals who care deeply about this community.

I'm also supporting Rosalind Gallino. Rosalind has an extensive history of volunteerism within our community. She has over 10 years of service to the PTA, is a driving force of the Somers Education Foundation, and has a long professional background in education. Rosalind would be an exceptional addition to our school board.

All three of these candidates have proven their focus is on our kids, not our politics. School boards are meant to be non-partisan entities. Let's keep it that way. Please join me on May 20th in standing up for our kids and our community with a vote for Kandel, Olsen and Gallino.
