Allwood Stillwell Stairs & Railings

Crafting tradition, one step at a time

Posted

For over seven decades, Allwood Stillwell Stairs & Railings has been setting the standard in custom wood stair and railing craftsmanship. Located in Goldens Bridge, their 8,000-square-foot manufacturing facility is the largest of its kind in Westchester or Putnam County—a true hub of artistry and precision.

This third-generation, family-owned business began its journey in 1946, when Biaggo Capua and his son Dan launched Stillwell Stairbuilders. With Biaggo’s commitment to quality and Dan’s eye for design, the company quickly earned a reputation for excellence. In 1952, following his service with the 11th Airborne, Ben—Biaggo’s second son—joined the business, helping to elevate Stillwell Stairs’ sales to the next level.

Bruce Capua, Biaggo’s grandson, took the helm in 1996, transforming the company into Allwood Stillwell Stairs & Railings, Inc., while preserving the old-world craftsmanship his family was known for.

Their legacy continues today through the dedicated work of their educated and enthusiastic team. Whether working with homeowners, interior designers, contractors, or architects, the Stillwell team is known for its collaborative approach. They take pride in transforming staircases into statement pieces—focal points that enhance both form and function in a home or commercial property.

From concept to installation, Allwood Stillwell offers a full range of services including design, layout, and railing system fabrication. They specialize in stair building and all kinds of custom railing systems, ensuring each staircase is as unique as the space it inhabits. Their handcrafted work can be found in homes and businesses throughout the Hudson Valley, including the charming historic properties that dot the region. With the ability to restore or replicate period architecture, their woodworkers are often called upon to blend tradition with modern functionality.

The company is built on a core philosophy passed down through generations: “Service is our most important product,” a mantra first spoken by Benjamin Capua, Bruce’s father. That dedication to customer satisfaction has earned them the loyalty of homeowners, small renovation firms and large-scale contractors.

Whether it’s a staircase for a grand entryway or a moderate basic home, the team at Allwood Stillwell approaches every project with the same commitment to quality, beauty, and lasting value.
