The Mahopac High School wrestling team delivered strong performances during the quad duals on Dec. 16 and 17, earning victories over Mamaroneck and John Jay East Fishkill before falling in a close contest to BBHVW.

The event began with Mahopac dominating Mamaroneck, winning 55-18. One of the standout wrestlers was Jake Clark, competing at 170 pounds. “Jake got a first-period pin to keep the team rolling,” said head coach Steven Tornambe, praising Clark’s leadership on the mat.

In their second match, Mahopac defeated John Jay East Fishkill 55-22. Logan Esquivel, a freshman filling in at 124 pounds for an injured teammate, made the most of his opportunity. “Logan has been working hard and waiting for his opportunity to take the mat,” Tornambe said. “He won his match 14-5, starting the Wolf Pack on a winning streak of five in a row.”

Additional highlights included sophomore Justin Cabuhat (108 pounds) earning two pins over the two nights, team captain Charles Przymylski (131), a junior, contributing two pins, and team captain Robert DeMauro (152), a team captain, achieving a technical fall and a pin.

The duals concluded with Mahopac facing BBHVW (a combined team of Briarcliff, Byram Hills, Valhalla and Westlake high schools) in a tightly contested matchup, which Mahopac narrowly lost 39-36. Standout performances included:

• Charles Przymylski (131) with a pin in 1:03.

• Henry Ramirez (145) with a pin at 3:09.

• Hector Perez (170) securing a pin at 4:47.

• Jake Clark (190) with a pin in just 58 seconds.

• Juan Fuentes (215) and Diego Leta (285) delivering quick pins at 22 and 35 seconds, respectively.

“Zak had two great matches against two tough teams,” Tornambe said, reflecting on the event. The coach expressed pride in his team’s resilience, emphasizing that both seasoned wrestlers and younger athletes contributed significantly to the team’s success.

Mahopac looks to carry the momentum into future matches, building on the strength of their performances at the quad duals.
