Putnam Fair to celebrate county's Revolutionary roots

Posted

History and hometown tradition will take center stage when the Putnam County Fair & 4-H Showcase returns to Veterans Memorial Park in Carmel July 25-26, combining family entertainment, agricultural exhibits and a special tribute to the county's role in the American Revolution.

The annual fair, hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County, will once again offer free admission and parking while showcasing local youth, community organizations and area businesses. This year's theme, "Revolutionary Putnam County," ties into the nationwide “America 250” commemorations and will feature historical exhibits and reenactors portraying life during the Revolutionary War.

"The Putnam County Fair & 4-H Showcase is a tradition rooted in community spirit," said Stefanie Hubert, executive director of Cornell Cooperative Extension Putnam County. "Each year, it brings together families, local organizations and talented youth to celebrate what makes Putnam County special."

Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne said the focus on the Revolutionary era provides an opportunity to honor local history while highlighting the county's civic spirit.

Putnam County historian Jennifer Cassidy said visitors will be able to experience history through reenactments and interactive activities designed for all ages.

The fair's 4-H Showcase will feature youth demonstrations, animal exhibits, archery and horse presentations. Master Gardener volunteers will provide gardening advice, and displays will include pollinator gardens, sewing exhibits and the new Big Beautiful Blossom Adult Flower Exhibit.

Entertainment and activities throughout the weekend include the New York Cruisers Car Show on Saturday, with a Sunday rain date, K-9 demonstrations by the New York State Police and Von Wolfenfels K9, corgi races, judged exhibits, live music, food trucks, craft vendors, games, inflatables and pony rides.

The fair will be held at Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park, 201 Gipsy Trail Road. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 25, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 26.

Organizers also seek volunteers, including students looking to earn community service hours.
