Assemblyman Matt Slater, in partnership with the Putnam Community Action Partnership, is collecting new backpacks and $25 gift cards to Staples, Target or Walmart to help local students prepare for the upcoming school year. Donations will be accepted through Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Carmel Town Hall and several other locations throughout Putnam and Westchester counties.
Bic pen illustrations: The Third Floor Gallery at Mahopac Public Library show featuring 35 Bic pen illustrations by Yorktown Heights artist Dylan O’Reilly (Mahopac News, July 23, 2026, pg. 25) continues Monday, Aug. 31. O’Reilly is a self-taught professional illustrator who specializes in pet portraits created with a black Bic pen. Many works will be available for purchase.
Getting started with Google Sheets: A beginner class on Google Sheets will be offered Monday, Aug. 10, at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. Participants will learn how to access Google Sheets, identify the parts of a workbook and use basic formatting options. Registration is required.
MPL at home: Learn how to access virtual author talks, find upcoming library programs and navigate the library’s website Monday, Aug. 17, at 6:30 p.m. or Thursday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. Registration is required.
Campfire storytime: Families with children ages 3 and older can join Ms. Cindy, Ms. Dayna and Ms. Erika for songs, stories, nature activities and imaginative fun Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 4:30 p.m. S’mores will be served. Registration is required.
The Italian American Club of Mahopac will host its annual "Ferragosto: An Evening in the Piazza" on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 2 to 9 p.m. at Chamber Park on South Lake Boulevard.
The free community event will feature live music, authentic Italian cuisine, children's rides, face painting, crafts, mozzarella-making demonstrations, a cannoli-eating contest, raffle baskets and more.
Food offerings will include pizza, pasta, sausage and peppers, zeppole, pastries, espresso, cappuccino, gelato and other Italian specialties.

The Lake Mahopac Rotary Club will host its Pizza & Brew Fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Mahopac Firehouse, 741 Route 6. The event will feature pizza, local brews, a 50/50 raffle and a competition to determine the best meatballs in town. The meatball competition will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Admission is $20 per person, with children under 10 admitted free. Proceeds will support the Rotary Club’s community giving.

Vacation Bible School returns to MCB Church Aug. 17-21. Journey through Ireland in Emerald Crossing, where Psalm 23 comes to life. Kids will explore God as Shepherd, Guide, Comforter, Provider and King through David’s story, hands-on activities and apologetics. From Donegal’s green pastures to Dublin’s Viking history, each day reveals how God leads, protects and provides.

The Yorktown Grange Fair returns Sept. 11-13 for its 102nd year at the Yorktown Grange Fairgrounds, 99 Moseman Road, Yorktown Heights. This year’s “Goats, Games & Good Times!” celebration will feature Blue Ribbon contests, livestock, live music, midway rides, vendors, food, craft beer, hayrides, a tractor parade, children’s entertainment and a new mechanical bull ride. The Mahopac Sports Association Football Program and the Touchdown Club will host the 2026 Mahopac Football Annual Golf Outing on Friday, Aug. 21, at the Putnam County Golf Course in Mahopac. Check-in and access to the driving range begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 9:30 a.m. shotgun-start scramble tournament featuring closest-to-the-pin and long-drive contests. Complimentary beverages will be available on the course, with lunch included following play.
Early-bird registration, available through Aug. 7, is $175 for individuals and $650 for foursomes. Beginning Aug. 8, registration increases to $200 for individuals and $750 for foursomes.
