In a statement from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, police said that on June 2, at approximately 4:45 p.m., deputies were called to a Southeast supermarket regarding a suspected shoplifter who had returned to the store. While deputies were arresting Mary Pincus Robles, 41, of Mahopac, investigators said they noticed a male subject who was attempting to hide behind a vehicle in the parking lot. They approached the subject, later identified as Cory J. Mugridge, 34, of Saint Clair, Mich., who admitted to being the boyfriend of the shoplifter and had driven her to the store.
Upon further questioning, police said they located a 9mm pistol in the vehicle along with ammunition. While attempting to place Mugridge under arrest, police alleged that he began to resist but was ultimately taken into custody after a brief struggle.
Mugridge was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony; criminal possession of a weapon, a Class D felony; criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E felony, and two class A misdemeanors of resisting arrest and second-degree obstructing governmental administration. He was brought to the Putnam County Correctional Facility and arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
Pincus Robles was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of a weapon, for having a stun gun. Both are class A misdemeanors. She was issued an appearance ticket and released for a future court date in the town of Southeast.
