Mahopac man arrested for public lewdness

MAHOPAC, N.Y. —A 20-year-old Mahopac man has been arrested and charge with one count of public lewdness after an incident on the Putnam County Trailway near Mount Hope Road.

Detectives from the Carmel Police Department said the incident took place on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at around 11:30 a.m. The suspect was eventually arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Police said a woman was jogging on the bike path when she was a man in his early 20s who was wearing wire-rimmed glasses expose himself directly to her. She immediately contacted the police, but the suspect had fled the area.

The victim told detectives that the suspect may have left in a light-gray-colored minivan. Detectives began canvassing the area and reviewed local security cam footage. Within days they identified the suspect as the 20-year-old Mahopac man who had been driving a mid-2000s gray Honda Odyssey. He was arrested on Aug. 13 at around 4:30 p.m. without incident.

He was charged with one count of public lewdness, a misdemeanor, arraigned in Carmel Town Court and released on his own recognizance.

Carmel police said the Kent Police Department and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation. Detectives ask that anyone who may have more information on this incident call Carmel PD at 845-628-1300.
