For years, Hudson Hounds in Mahopac presented itself as a “home-like” retreat for dogs — a place where pets could roam freely, socialize, and be cared for like family.
Founded in 2012 and later relocated to Mahopac in 2016, the boarding and daycare business grew into a full-service operation offering play groups, grooming, and overnight stays, all centered around what it described as a “warm, safe home atmosphere” for dogs.
The Mahopac location, at 212 Union Valley Road, with its private yard and customized activity spaces, was designed to give dogs comfort and enrichment — a model built on the legacy of founder Christine Brown, whose vision the company said it continued to uphold after her death in 2019.
Now, that same facility — a familiar name to many local pet owners — is at the center of a criminal investigation.
The Putnam County SPCA Law Enforcement Division announced the arrest of Aaron Pozit, 43, the owner of Hudson Hounds, following an investigation into allegations of animal abuse at the Mahopac boarding facility.
Detectives arrested Pozit on April 1, charging him with multiple counts related to alleged acts of animal abuse. The charges stem from an investigation during which authorities interviewed several individuals connected to the Mahopac facility.
Pozit, who had taken over daily operations of Hudson Hounds as the business expanded in Mahopac, had also emphasized training and continued education for staff, incorporating techniques from professional dog training programs into the facility’s routines, according to the company’s website.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in the Town of Carmel Justice Court on April 21.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The Putnam County SPCA Law Enforcement Division can be reached 24/7 at 845-520-6915 or online at spcaputnam.org.
