SOUTHEAST, N.Y. - Multiple fire companies raced to the scene of an inferno at an apartment building on June 11 in an incident that saw one of the residents arrested on arson charges.

Members of the Brewster Fire Department were first on scene, finding the three-story structure at 8 Old Route 6 in Southeast engulfed in flames.

The multi-family building contained 10 separate dwelling units.

Just after 1 p.m., the BFD requested a tanker and additional personnel from the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department. The two companies were provided with further support and water relays from the Croton Falls, Carmel, and Lake Carmel Fire Departments, as well as the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Management Services, New York State Police, and Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.

After an investigation, one of the building's tenants confessed to intentionally setting the fire in his apartment.

Brian Cronin, 43, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Arson 2nd, a class B felony. He was remanded to Putnam County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.
