Two workers from the New York City Watershed property in Carmel Hamlet were sent to the trauma center at Westchester Medical Center after the ATV they were riding in rolled down a steep embankment causing serious injury.
On Wednesday, Aug.20, at around 11 a.m., the Carmel Fire Department and Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps were dispatched to Belden Road near the Watershed property for a reported ATV rollover accident.
Upon arrival, emergency crews located the two workers who had sustained serious injuries after their ATV rolled over a steep embankment of approximately 12 feet.
One individual had suffered a severe head injury, while the second was trapped beneath the overturned ATV.
Both patients were located roughly one mile off the roadway, requiring an extensive extrication operation through wooded terrain. Firefighters and EMS personnel carried the injured workers out of the woods to awaiting ambulances.
Both patients were transported to the trauma center for advanced medical care.
Carmel Fire Department officials thanked the rapid response and the Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps, for their coordinated efforts which aided in the safe removal and transport of the victims under challenging conditions.
