The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has named James T. Menton as its new undersheriff.
Menton replaces Brian Hess, who was named acting sheriff in the wake of the passing of Sheriff Kevin McConville.
Menton was sworn in on the steps of the county courthouse on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
A native of Carmel and a 1991 graduate of Carmel High School, Menton brings more than 30 years of law enforcement experience to the Sheriff’s Office. His career includes roles as detective first grade with the NYPD and criminal investigator with the Westchester County DA's Cold Case Bureau, where he led complex investigations.
“We are honored to welcome Undersheriff Menton back to the county where he grew up and where he continues to raise his family with his wife, Tara, and their two children, both of whom are carrying on his legacy in law enforcement,” Hess said in a prepared statement.
