Bedford voters choose next Supervisor

BEDFORD, N.Y. - After a tumultuous Election Day, Bedford voters have spoken.

According to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections, incumbent Town Supervisor Ellen Calves earned another term on Nov. 3, turning away a challenge from Don Scott.

As of 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, Calves, running on the Democratic and Working Families lines, had received 3,261 votes, while Scott, a Republican, garnered 1,277 votes.

Following widespread ballot scanner problems on Election Day, the Westchester County Board of Elections was expected to begin counting the outstanding paper ballots at 11 a.m. on Nov. 4.

Although the final vote count was not yet available, Scott conceded the race on Wednesday morning and offered the following statement on social media:

"Well, Bedford, that was fun.

First, congratulations to my opponent on the election. I wish them every success. When our Town Supervisor does well, Bedford does well. And that's something we should all be rooting for.

As for me, I may not have won the election, but I got something pretty wonderful out of this experience.

I heard from neighbors I might never otherwise have met. I received thoughtful questions, candid feedback, interesting ideas, and more encouragement than I expected. Some of you agreed with me. Some of you definitely didn't. I appreciated hearing from all of you.

We also had a lot of fun along the way.

We tried running a campaign without lawn signs, mailers, fundraising appeals, or the usual political machinery. We experimented with AI, built some interesting things, asked questions, shared a few laughs, and tried to make local politics a little more accessible.

And now that the campaign is over, I'll finally have time to fix my mailbox, which mysteriously collapsed under the weight of all the mail I've been getting lately. No idea what that was about.

But underneath all the unusual stuff was a simple idea: Bedford deserves a choice.

I'm glad I was able to offer one.

To everyone who voted for me, thank you for your confidence. To everyone who voted for my opponent, thank you for participating. And to everyone who followed along, commented, shared a post, challenged an idea, or simply watched this little experiment unfold, thank you for making it worthwhile.

The campaign may be over, but the conversations don't have to be.

I love this town. I'm grateful to be part of it. And I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Thank you, Bedford."
