Barbara J. Mayes, 88, a long-time resident of the Holmes-Wingdale area, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Putnam Ridge, Brewster, NY.
Born in Carmel, NY on July 25, 1936, Barbara was the daughter of Alfus and Marion (Bierce) Ingersoll.
She worked as a registered nurse aide at the former Lovely Hills Nursing Home in Pawling, retiring after 27 years, only to return later to work a few more years.
Barbara loved painting Paint-by-Number pictures and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her two husbands, Malcolm E. Mayes, Sr. and Garry S. Mayes, Sr.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, Garry S. Mayes, Jr. of Wingdale and Joseph M. Mayes of Pawling; three daughters, Laura Mayes, Barbara Mittlestat, and Jacquline Mayes, all of Wingdale; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew, and friends.
In addition to her parents and two husbands, she is also predeceased by two children, Malcolm E. Mayes, Jr and Pamela Sluk and four siblings, Rose and Ellen Bierce and Jimmy and Billy Dakin.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in Memory of Barbara be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
