Agnes C. Hvisc, a loving mother and the matriarch of her family, was born at home on Fairmount Ave. in Yonkers to Anna A. (Vlasaty) and Joseph Bartlik on April 13, 1922. She was blessed to die at home on November 24, 2024. Agnes, a devoted Catholic, graduated from Most Holy Trinity Elementary and Commerce High School. While in school, she played bugle, sang in the choir, and worked at Genung’s Department Store in Getty Square. She was proud of her bugling all her life. She also spoke fondly of her time spent working at Ward Leonard Electric after graduating from high school.

Agnes married her long-term crush and soul mate, Joseph S. Hvisc, in 1948. They opened their hearts and adopted Joseph J. and Judith A.

Agnes was a homemaker until 1972, when she became a Unit Clerk at St. John’s Hospital in Yonkers.

In later years, Joe and Aggie left Yonkers and moved to Jefferson Village in Yorktown Heights, where she joined Elizabeth Anne Seton Parish. She enthusiastically served the condominium in various roles including president and board member until her passing.

Agnes relished her membership in the Sokol and Jednota societies as an outward symbol of her Slovakian heritage and traditions. She was an ardent believer and practitioner of her faith, reciting the rosary daily and watching mass every day in her later years.

Those who knew Agnes, know the profound interest she had in our relatives and people of any and all walks of life.
