What did it mean to be on last year's Yorktown girls volleyball team that went to the state final four for the first time in program history? It truly felt so special and amazing to be a part of the Yorktown team that was making history. It also proved how all of our hard work as individuals and as a team paid off and brought us to great things.
How old were you when you started playing volleyball and what got you started? I think I was 13 years old when I first started playing, but my love for the sport started at 11. My best friend Gianna got me started.
She was always talking about volleyball and how she wanted to play a sport together, and that eventually led me to try out for the Yorktown team.
What is your favorite part of being on the Yorktown girls volleyball team? It is not only the fact I further my skills and love for volleyball but also my teammates. I have made so many friends and met so many amazing people.
My teammates and I have such a great bond that makes every day feel like so much fun.
What is your favorite team activity or pre- or post-game ritual? My favorite pre-game activity or ritual would definitely be our hype notes before our games. My coach (Gigi Kemp) gives each of us the name of one of our players, and we write that person a note to pump them up before we play.
Who has been your biggest role model? My dad because he teaches me how to be independent and hardworking, but also motivates me to be my best self.
What’s one thing about yourself that most people don’t know? That I work three different jobs. If I don’t have volleyball, I’m working.
If I’m not working, I have volleyball. I also love to rock climb and play archery.
What do you plan to do after high school? I plan on playing collegiate volleyball and working towards my master’s degree to become an elementary school teacher.
Who's your favorite professional athlete and pro sports team? Haleigh Washington on the USA team.
What’s your go-to warm-up music? My go to warmup music is normally something hype like Drake, Glorilla, Megan Thee Stallion.
What is the go-to app on your phone? Snapchat.
What’s one place you’ve never been but would love to visit? Italy.
Best place to eat in Yorktown and why? Yorktown Grille. They unfortunately went out of business, but they had the best food and great energy.
What would you say to a young athlete thinking about trying out for the Yorktown girls volleyball team? I’d tell them to go for it. Volleyball can be intimidating at first, but the Yorktown team is such a great group of people, and you learn so much both on and off the court. I’d also tell them not to be afraid to make mistakes and to just work hard and have fun.
