YORKTOWN, N.Y.—A Jefferson Valley woman was shot and killed last night (Nov. 9) in what police believe is an incident of domestic violence. Her suspected killer is also dead after taking his own life, Yorktown police said.

Police said they received multiple 911 calls about shots fired at the Coach-n-Four apartments on East Main Street in Jefferson Valley at around 9:38 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Officers arrived on the scene to find 63-year-old Geraldine Krecmer lying in the walkway in front of the apartment with a gunshot wound.

“Tragically, Krecmer was found dead at the scene," Yorktown PD said. “Officers cleared the involved apartment of any suspects and conducted an area sweep for the suspect, who had fled the scene.”

Yorktown PD said multiple law enforcement officers arrived to assist, including state, federal, and county officers from Westchester and Putnam County, along with several local police departments.

Westchester County Police Aviation and their special response team (SRT) also arrived to assist. Investigators soon identified 51-year-old Salvatore Ciniglio as the suspect.

Ciniglio was reportedly homeless with his last known addresses in Queens and Ardsley, police said. Investigators believe he had “an estranged relationship with a family member of the victim.”

Investigators shared information about a vehicle possibly being used by Ciniglio with area law enforcement agencies and the vehicle was spotted in the Bronx at around 10:15 p.m. NYPD was alerted and police were able to narrow down Ciniglio’s location to a smaller area of the Bronx. At about 11:42 p.m., NYPD found the vehicle, but when they attempted to stop it, Ciniglio fled. NYPD pursued the vehicle. When it finally stopped, the driver—later identified as Ciniglio—shot himself as officers approached.

Ciniglio was taken into custody and transported by ambulance to Jacobi Hospital. He was treated but later died from his injuries.

During the investigation, Yorktown PD issued a shelter-in-place directive and said Ciniglio was thought to be armed and dangerous.

Yorktown PD is continuing the investigation, but said Ciniglio appears to have acted alone. There are no other suspects.

Witnesses or anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Yorktown PD’s detective department at (914) 962-4141.
