A former housekeeper at Yorktown Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has pleaded guilty to attempted rape in a case involving a resident with severe dementia.

Javier Barragan, a Yorktown resident, pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree attempted rape, the Office of Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace confirmed to Yorktown News.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 19, 2027, and the District Attorney’s Office said he has been “promised” a sentence of two years in state prison, followed by three years of post-release supervision.

He was charged after a nursing assistant discovered him engaging in sexual intercourse with the resident at the facility on Feb. 21, according to previous reporting by Yorktown News. Authorities said the resident was incapable of consenting to sexual contact because of her condition.

He will also be required to register as a sex offender, and an order of protection has been issued for the victim, the District Attorney’s Office said.
