Yorktown’s White stars in track nationals

YORKTOWN, N.Y.—Yorktown senior Brian White had an amazing winter, which included a great performance at the Nike Indoor Nationals 2025, at the Nike Track and Field Center, at the Armory in New York City on March 15.

White competed in the 60-meter dash in the emerging elite event, finishing with a time of 7.15 seconds.

His time placed him first in Section 1, 16th in New York State, and 38th out of 140 runners overall.

“I loved looking around and seeing so many people from so many different states,” White said. “It was so cool because I didn’t have to wonder who’s the fastest in the country because they were all right here in front of me. My friends coming to support me during this event made it special as well, and it’s a memory I’ll never forget.”

White said he was successful this campaign because he took care of his body during the long winter season.

“Basically every day was a training day in some shape or form,” White said. “Whether it’s stretching, long runs, heavy weights, light weights, or intense sprints, I always managed to eat correct and sleep to make my body heal. Mentally, I was very prepared for these big moments and I had all the confidence in the world.”

While pleased with his performance at the nationals, what meant more to White was his consistency throughout the campaign.

“I was happier in the fact that I maintained my speed throughout the whole championship season,” White said. “Winter track is very long, and there are cases where people peak at the wrong time. I still don’t have all of that figured out, but I was still running really well at the end and putting down good times and placement. Guys who beat me two weeks ago, I finished in front of them at the meet, so that was most pleasing to me.”

Yorktown coach Keith Smith said it was a great accomplishment for White to compete in the nationals.

“He had a great season and was a great ending to his high school track and field career,” Smith said. “Brian is a very determined athlete and sets goals that he strives to achieve. He is a very strong and powerful sprinter and in the 55-meter and 60-meter races, you need that explosiveness.”
