YORKTOWN, N.Y.—While Yorktown is consistently ranked among the safest municipalities in the country, it isn't immune from crime. Two of the top stories had very different endings, with the happy outcome of two missing teens returning home safely overshadowed by the tragic killings of a teenaged Saint Patrick's parishioner and a Jefferson Valley mom.
Missing Teens Found Safe
Yorktown was on edge in May when two Lakeland High School girls went missing on Mother’s Day (May 14), setting off an area-wide hunt that involved multiple law enforcement agencies and concerned citizens. Fortunately, 17-year-old Evelyn Jimenez and 15-year-old Violet Munroe were found safe and reunited with their families on May 22.
Tragedy Strikes
Two brutal shootings shocked the local community this fall.
On Oct. 28, Michael Raimondi, 15, was killed and his mother Christina, 38, and younger brother Matthew, 13, were critically wounded in a shooting allegedly perpetrated by 40-year-old Fernando Jimenez, 40, who was apprehended following a manhunt. Though living in Somers at the time of the shooting, the Raimondis had previously attended Yorktown schools and are parishioners of Saint Patrick’s Church in Yorktown Heights.
A Jefferson Valley woman was shot and killed on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 9 in what police believe is an incident of domestic violence originally targeting the victim’s daughter. Geraldine Krecmer, 63, was shot and killed outside her apartment by alleged shooter Salvatore Ciniglio, 51 who was attempting to get at Krecmer’s daughter—his former domestic partner and the mother of his child. After a police pursuit, Ciniglio fled to the Bronx, where he took his own life as officers approached.
