Yorktown avenged a loss a week earlier to rival Somers with a 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-12) win versus the Tuskers, paced by Delgado (5 digs, 4 aces, 11 assists), Horn (3 digs, 8 kills, 1 block, 1 ace), Fasce (8 digs, 10 assists), Allen (9 digs, 1 ace, 2 assists), McCoy (8 digs, 7 kills, 1 block, 3 aces, 1 assist), and Alexander (1 dig, 4 kills, 3 blocks, 1 assist).
“It felt great to bounce back after losing in five sets to Somers last week and to do that by sweeping them showed great team effort and determination,” Horn said. “We were able to do so by focusing on our defense in practice and cleaning up small details, while prioritizing our team chemistry that gets stronger and stronger each day.”

Friday, Sept. 18, Horace Greeley High School
Yorktown won its third match in a row with a 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23) victory against Horace Greeley, led by Delgado (12 digs, 14 assists), Horn (6 digs, 11 kills, 1 block, 3 aces), Angelina Piechucki (4 digs, 5 kills, 1 block), Fasce (7 digs, 5 aces, 27 assists), Allen (10 digs, 2 aces, 6 assists), McCoy (8 digs, 23 kills, 1 block, 1 ace, 3 assists), and Alexander (10 kills, 3 blocks).
Yorktown Tournament
Saturday, Sept. 19, Yorktown High School
Yorkotwn defeated Lakeland in the finals of the Yorktown Tournament 25-15.
“It meant a lot to us as a team to go up against good competition for a final and win,” McCoy said. “In that game, the energy shifted and grew stronger than ever. We gave our 100 percent, encouraged each other, and most importantly believed in ourselves. Everybody on the court trusted one and other to do what they do best and everything came together for a great win.”
McCoy was named MVP of the tournament, with Alexander and Fasce earning All-Tournament honors. Lakeland’s Kelly Mallon and Sofia Cruz were named All-Tournament as well.
“I was so happy to hear I got named MVP for this year’s tournament,” McCoy said. “I’m honored I can help represent Yorktown volleyball in such a way, and it shows anyone’s hard work will always be recognized. I also couldn’t have done it without my teammates, who are always there to pick me up and put me back on my feet.”

Monday, Sept. 14, Rye Neck High School
Ava Ryan (2G, 1A), Ella Robustelli (1G), Alana D’Andraia (2G, 1A), Megan Durante (1G), Emma Donnelly (2G), Lily Diaz (1G, 1A), and Anna Burns (1A) did the honors for the Huskers in their 9-0 win against Rye Neck.

Thursday, Sept. 17 Yorktown High School
Robustelli (3G, 1A), Donnelly (2G), Diaz (1G, 3A), Burns (1G), Durante (1A), and Ryan (1A) ignited Yorktown to a 7-0 win against Hollowcliff (Sleepy Hollow and Briarcliff) in the opening round of the Yorktown Tournament.

Saturday, Sept. 19, Yorktown High School
Yorktown won its own tournament championship game 7-0 against Arlington, with Diaz (2G, 1A) being named tournament MVP.
“I’m so appreciative to my teammates for helping me succeed in today’s game, ultimately allowing me to be named Tournament MVP,” Diaz said. “It feels amazing to have those victories and recognition at home in front of our community.”
Robustelli (2G, All-Tournament), Ryan (2G), Burns (1G, 1A) and Donnelly (2A) joined Diaz in the offensive box score.
“These past few tournament games have been crucial wins for us against strong opponents,” Diaz said. “In preparation for the games, we dedicated the past few days to collecting soup cans in our community, which were donated.”
Sam Conboy registered 4 saves to record the shutout in goal.
“We’ve been diligently working hard throughout the week, knowing that we’d have to work hard to secure these big wins,” Diaz said. “Winning at home and on our own turf is the best feeling, especially since we were hosting this tournament. Getting to celebrate on the Charlie Murphy turf with one another is such a great feeling that we’ll carry with us as we move forward into the season.”

Gianna Santini (2G, 2A), Allie Waters (1G, 2A), Gabby Goldstein (2G), Riley Waters (2G), Olivia O'Connor (3 saves), and Ali Castro (1 save) propelled Lakeland to a 3-1 triumph versus Bronxville.
Lakeland 2, John Jay-CR 1
Wednesday, Sept. 16, Lakeland High School
In a game between two of Section 1’s best, Gianna Santini (2A), Aditi Parambath (1G), Gabby Goldstein (1G), and Olivia O’Connor (1 save) did the job for the Hornets in a 2-1 victory against John Jay-Cross River.
“We were able to come out on top because we played really well together and everyone was working hard for each other,” Santini said. “We stayed focused and took advantage of our opportunities. It felt really good to get the win, especially against John Jay, and it was a great feeling being able to celebrate it with the team.”

Santini (4G, 3G), Parambath (1G, 2A), Goldstein (2G), Allie Waters (2G), Kendall Williams (1A), and Meaghan Heyde (1A) did the damage offensively, with O’Connor and Castro sharing the shutout in goal, in Lakeland’s 9-0 victory against Clarkstown.
Lakeland 4, Gorton 2

Ryan Harmon (3G) led Lakeland to a 4-2 triumph against Gorton.
“I’d attribute the hat trick mostly to my teammates,” Harmon said. “They created amazing chances for me and made it easier for me to finish. Just a good team effort against Gorton.”
Kenyon Cawley added a goal with Nick Ahmataj, Matteo DiLaura, Jayden Leon, and Colin Purcell each producing an assist for the Hornets, while teammates Aiden Plouffe (5 Saves) and Deny Toxqui (1 save) did the job in goal.

“I like to bring a loud presence with me on the court, whether it’s cheering for a teammate after a good play or calling a ball in or out, I like to be vocal as much as possible,” Volve said. “It makes everyone’s life easier on the court and the game flows smoother.”
