Yorktown defeated John Jay-East Fishkill 5-1 behind the pitching performance of Kate Brown (7 innings pitched, 0 earned runs, 5 hits, 4 strikeouts, 0 walks).
“It was a great team effort, and I’m so proud of everyone’s hard work,” Brown said. “[Catcher] Kaitlyn Horn and I made a game plan and we were able to stick to it. We had an incredible defense where everyone put in the work. Mia Horn made some amazing plays at shortstop that kept us in the game. We made some very smart base running decisions that helped push us through, Hopefully we can build off of it and continue to play hard.”
Alicia Cinicolo (2-2, 2 runs, RBI, walk) led Yorktown offensively.
“Alicia had amazing hits, and Nina (Fasce) did really well coming in to play second,” Brown said.
Yorktown 5, Mahopac 0
Wednesday, April 8, Mahopac Falls Field
Adriana Barca (11 strikeouts, one walk, two hits, 20 swinging strikes) threw a gem in Yorktown’s 5-0 victory against Mahopac.
“It all comes back to the work I put in over the winter,” Barca said. “I spent a lot of time focusing on my mechanics, building consistency, and getting in as much work as I could to prepare for this school season. Going into the game, I felt a lot more prepared and trusted that all my hard work would pay off.”
Barca added that her success against Mahopac was a team effort as well.
“Defensively, we made some really heads up plays, like Alicia’s throw to third to get the lead runner, which was huge,” Barca said. “It’s also good to know that I have a strong team behind me, and a great catcher like Kaitlyn Horn, I know I can trust her behind the plate. Overall it’s going to be a great season and we are all excited to see how it plays out.”
Recording multiple-hit games for the Huskers versus Mahopac were Barca (2-2, run, walk) and Kaitlyn Horn (2-3, run, RBI).
Yorktown 12, Lakeland 9
Friday, April 10, Yorktown High School
Tied at 9-9, Kaitlyn Horn (2-3) hit a 3-run homer to right-center field in the sixth inning that gave the Huskers a 12-9 victory against rival Lakeland.
“During my at-bat when the game was tied all I was thinking was to get a base hit and move the runners over,” Horn said. “It felt awesome to break the tie and secure the win for my team because it was a very close and intense game.”
Mia Horn (2-4, run, RBI), Cinicolo (2-4, 2 runs, 3 RBI), Barca (4-4, 2 runs, RBI, homer) and Fasce (3-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI) paced the Huskers offensively.
Jenna Taylor (3-4, two singles, one double, 6 RBI, 2 runs), Nicole Mautone (2-4, two singles, 3 runs, 6 strikeouts pitching), Taryn Bruno (2 RBI, run) and Jaclyn Gu (2 RBI) produced for Lakeland.
Lakeland 2, Panas 1
Tuesday, April 7, Lakeland High School
Tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Lakeland’s Liliana Aguirre led off with a walk. During the next batter, Ava Sabatello’s at-bat, she stole second and scored on an overthrow to give the Hornets a 2-1 victory against sister school Walter Panas.
“As I was on the bases, my goal was to steal second base so if Ava were to get a hit, I would be able to get a better chance to get home,” Aguirre said. “But overall, to steal as many bases as possible to win the game.”
The win enabled the Hornets to sweep the season series from the Panthers.
“Because we have played Panas multiple times and we also are good friends with a lot of the players, it felt good to keep our streak going for beating Panas,” Aguirre said.
Mautone (7 innings, 8 strikeouts) earned the win on the mound.
“I was able to pitch well because I stayed focus and trusted my defense behind me,” Mautone said. “It felt great to pitch well against a rival like Panas and help my team sweep the season series, overall great team win.”
Gianna Santini (2-3, 2 singles) also produced for Lakeland.

Aguirre (3-4, 3 singles, 1 RBI, 2 runs, 1 walk), Mautone (2-2, 2 doubles, 1 run, 4 innings, 8 strikeouts), Santini (2-3, 2 doubles, 1 walk, 3 runs, 1 RBI), Sabatello (2 RBI), Taylor (2 RBI) and Gu (3 innings, 2 strikeouts) ignited Lakeland to a 12-3 victory against Suffern.

Lakeland defeated Woodlands 21-7, led by Emily Hahn (pick-six), Caroline Leonard (76 receiving yards, 1 TD), Kacey Chin (31 total yards, 1 receiving TD), Amelia Calisi (1 interception, 5 pass deflections) and Aditi Parambath (96 passing yards, 2 touchdowns).
“This was a full team effort,” Hahn said. “Our defense really stepped up, and everyone stayed locked in. Everyone did their job on the field so we were able to execute our game plan to keep them to seven points.”

Chin (1 interception), Caroline Daly (8 tackles, 2 for loss, 1 sack), Leonard (2 defensive interceptions, 5 catches, 55 yards, 2 receiving touchdowns), Calisi (5 tackles, 1 for loss, 3 catches, 41 yards, 2 extra points, highlight of the game with a one-handed catch in the end zone for the extra point), Alexa Marrico (65 rushing yards) and Parambath (116 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, 45 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns) propelled Lakeland to its fifth win in a row with a 26-6 victory against Horace Greeley.

Yorktown responded from its first loss of the season with a 20-6 victory against Yonkers.
“It was a tough loss to Brewster but was great to see the way we bounced back the next game,” Marcello said. “Chloe had a huge pick six and Erin had a great game both offensively and defensively. As always our receivers had key catches. It was a total team effort.”
Marcello (77 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown), Vaught (61 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown), Chloe Quiles (78 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown, 7 solo tackles, 1 interception), Erin Duffy (90 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown, 2 interceptions), Monaco (1 receiving touchdown) and Hung (6 total tackles, 3 solo, 3 for loss, 2 sacks) spearheaded the Huskers in the victory.

“I pitched well today because I stayed locked in and trusted my stuff,” Doñe said. I was hitting my spots, getting ahead in counts, and letting my defense work behind me. It felt great to be in that rhythm and help my team get the win, definitely one of those games where everything just clicks.”
Doñe (3-4, run, stolen base), Mautone (1-4, 2 runs), Jake Consiglio (run, RBI), Aurigemma (run, 2 RBI) and Santoiemma (2-3, 2 RBI) ignited Lakeland’s offense against Somers.
