YORKTOWN, N.Y. —A hidden camera found inside a private office has led to the arrest of a 64-year-old Amawalk woman.
Yorktown Police said it began investigating on March 12 after receiving a report of a suspicious incident. According to police, the device, disguised as a smoke detector, had been secretly installed in the victim’s office without their knowledge or permission. Authorities allege Mrudangi Thakur knew the camera was being placed inside the office. The victim's name and profession have not been released. It's unclear why Thakur would have monitored the office.
On Sunday (March 30) police said Thakur turned herself in at the Yorktown Police Department and was processed before being released on her own recognizance.
She is charged with eavesdropping, a Class E felony, and is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on April 15 at 6 p.m.
