YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. —Town officials visited the Triangle Shopping Center on Tuesday as crews continue a $10 million renovation of the retail complex.

According to a press release from the town, the 208,000-square-foot shopping center at the intersection of Saw Mill River Road and Maple Hill Street currently has crews updating store facades and installing new sidewalks. The project also includes repaving the 867-space parking lot.

Construction is expected to be completed in the fall.

Adam Brodsky, the director of operations, development, and co-general counsel at The Hakim Organization, which has owned the retail center since the early 1980s, said the company believes in “the economic viability” of the town.

“Yorktown is a dynamic place,” he said. “With all the additional development that’s going on in town—both on the residential side and the commercial side—we think Yorktown is going to have such magnetism.”

Brodsky, in the release, said his leasing agents have received what he called “significant interest” from possible renters. He added that his company is “in talks to bring national retailers to the mall.”

Supervisor Ed Lachterman said he believes the shopping center is a cornerstone for the town.

“We need shopping for our residents, and that helps our property values,” he said. “We also need jobs for kids.”

According to Lachterman, Trader Joe’s brings 130 jobs to Yorktown.

“I’m sure that some of the stores that are possibilities here will hire people, and that’s huge,” he said.

Acme, Anytime Fitness, Bank of America, and Miraggio restaurant, which reopened in April,  are housed in the Triangle Shopping Center.

Councilman Sergio Esposito is a strong proponent of business and the liveliness it brings to town.

“I remember when we first spoke before you actually started the construction,” he said to Brodsky, adding, “it’s shaping up to be something just wonderful.”

The Triangle Shopping Center, the release said, is within walking distance of the Yorktown Green center—about 12 minutes, according to Apple Maps—which has also undergone renovation that the town said “has attracted national retailers, local restaurants, and thousands of shoppers.”

Councilman Patrick Murphy praised the efforts behind the multi-million dollar upgrades.

“I thank you and your team for reinvesting in Yorktown,” he said to Brodsky. “Yorktown is a destination now because of people like you.”
