Yorktown officials share the joy of reading at 'Read Across America Day'

YORKTOWN N.Y. — Town officials joined communities across the country Monday to celebrate Read Across America Day.

The John C. Hart Memorial Library welcomed special guest readers, including Highway Superintendent Dave Paganelli,  Supervisor Ed Lachterman, and Police Chief Robert Noble, who each took turns reading to Yorktown’s youngest residents.

Pete the Cat and Leonardo, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, also made special appearances and listened in during storytime.

Read Across America Day is an annual event honoring the birth of children’s book author Theodor Seuss Geisel (better known as Dr. Seuss) on March 2. Since his birthday fell on a Sunday this year, the event was held on Monday, March 3.
