In a rematch of last year’s Section 1 Class B championship game won by Horace Greeley, Yorktown defeated the Quakers 9-8.
“It meant a lot to get that win, especially after last year,” said Yorktown’s Frank Ofrias. “We knew what happened in the sectional title game, so coming in we were motivated to prove ourselves. We went through some bumps along the way tonight but we pushed through, that just describes us as a team, tough, gritty and ready to battle.”
Ofrias led Yorktown with four goals.
“The goals just came from my teammates putting me in good positions,” Ofrias said. “Our offense was clicking, and we needed good possessions because we played a lot of defense and I was able to find space and finish my opportunities. It’s really a credit to the whole team and how well we were working together.”
Tommy Carney (2G, 2A), Gianluca Marchini (1G, 1A), JT Carney (1G), Ryan Fastiggi (1G), Cooper Constantine (1A), Hunter Mezzatesta (10 saves) and Tyler Caricati (13-22 faceoffs) also contributed to the win.
Yorktown 14, Scarsdale 5

Yorktown defeated Scarsdale 14-5 in the fourth annual Able Lax Classic, played in support of disability inclusion in sports.
JT Carney (2G, 5A), Tommy Carney (3G, 2A), Ofrias (4G), Vinny Marchini (2G), Rowan Larsen (1G), Brady Sheridan (1G), Sean Munnelly (1G), Fastiggi (1A), Michael Desiderio (1A), Aidan Concannon (1A), Mezzatesta (4 saves), Dom DeBellis (4 saves) and Caricati (14/14 faceoffs) did the honors for the Huskers against Scarsdale.
Lakeland/Panas 11, Putnam Valley 7

Lakeland/Panas sophomore goalie Dan Horowitz tallied 14 saves, including the 300th of his career, in the Rebels’ 11-7 win over Putnam Valley.
“The win was obviously more important,” Horowitz said. “It was a great team win. I’m glad I could make some saves and contribute. I had no idea I was near 300 so it was a pretty cool surprise.”
Keaton Wolf (1G, 5A), CC Savastano (4G, 1A), Aaron Federoff (3G), Pat Harkins (2G, 1A) and Anthony Ray (1G, 2A) provided the offense for the Rebels.
Pearl River 12, Lakeland/Panas 7
Saturday, May 2, Walter Panas High School
Savastano (4G, 1A, eclipses 100-career points, now at 102 points), Wolf (1G, 3A), Ray (1G, 1A), Harkins (1G) and Horowitz (14 saves) paced Lakeland/Panas in its 12-7 loss to Pearl River.
Yorktown 3, John Jay-CR 2

Kaitlyn Horn (2-for-3, walk) hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the seventh inning with two outs on a full count to lift Yorktown past John Jay-Cross River 3-2.
“During this at bat I was thinking to hit a base hit to move the runner over and to meet the ball,” Horn said. “Hitting this home run made me really happy that I could pull through a win for my team.”
The runner at second base was Katie Egan, who reached on a walk. She then stole second, moving into scoring position.
“I hit the ball to left-center and it felt great to provide for my team, especially after the amazing pitching performance from Kate Brown,” Horn said.
Brown allowed 4 hits, 1 earned run and no walks while striking out 4 in a complete-game effort. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Adriana Barca also homered for the Huskers.
Yorktown 5, North Rockland 3

Brown (7 innings, 3 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts) recorded her 300th-career strikeout in a 5-3 triumph against North Rockland.
“It meant a lot to me,” Brown, a junior, said of 300. “This was such an important game for us as a team to show how we can compete against an amazing team like North Rockland. It was such a fun game as well, with so much cheering for each other to keep us going.”
She added that she “didn’t even know that it was my 300th strikeout, so it was an amazing feeling when I got into the dugout. I’m so proud of my team for sticking with each other throughout the whole game and this milestone made the win feel even better.”
Horn (3-4, run, home run, 2 RBI), Egan (3-3, run) and Brown (2-3, 3 RBI) propelled Yorktown offensively.

Lakeland shut out Mahopac 2-0 behind a strong pitching performance from Nicole Mautone (7 innings, 3 strikeouts, 3 hits allowed).
“I pitched as well as I did because I stayed consistently focused, making sure I hit my spots and keep them off balanced, Mautone said. “My defense also played a huge roll backing me up and making great plays behind me.”
Gianna Santini (2-for-3, 2 singles, RBI) delivered a squeeze bunt with the bases loaded and two outs, scoring Arianna DeEsso for the first run in the fourth inning. Jenna Taylor also added an RBI.
Lakeland 13, Croton-Harmon 0 (6 innings)

Lakeland blanked Croton-Harmon 13-0 in six innings, led by Mautone (3-for-4, three doubles, 4 RBI), Ava Sabatello (2-for-4, single, double, 2 RBI) and Taylor (2-for-4, 2 singles, 1 RBI).
“We hit as well as we did because we had positive energy leading into the game and stayed patient,” said Mautone, who struck out 9 in six innings. “We put the ball in play and kept our momentum going.” ‘

“We played well on offense because we worked together and kept it simple,” Sateriale said. “We moved the ball fast, which helped us find open teammates. We didn’t force shots and waited for good chances. We also took advantage of openings in their defense and finished our shots.”

Lakeland/Panas’ Brooke Pizzarello (7 goals) scored in the first round of overtime to lift the Rebels to a 13-12 win over Pawling.
“Our team played strong until the final seconds, which helped us stay in the game and push it to overtime,” Pizzarello said. “Off the draw, I was able to come up with the ball and take it down the field. I knew there was a lot of pressure in that moment, but I stayed calm and was able to finish the shot. It was an incredible feeling.”
Emma Stewart (2G, 1A), Gabby Goldstein (2G), Katelyn Kuney (1G), Sofia Hoffman (1G) and Ava Canniff (11 saves) also produced for the Rebels.
Brewster 11, Lakeland/Panas 9

Pizzarello (6G, 1A) registered her 250th-career goal in the Rebels’ 11-9 loss to Brewster.
“Achieving this goal means so much to me and shows how all of the hard work that I have put into this sport truly pays off,” said Pizzarello, the UAlbany-bound senior. “It’s so special to me that I was able to accomplish this because it is not a very common thing that you see.”
Goldstein (1G, 1A, 3 draw controls), Hoffman (1G, 2 draw controls), Stewart (1G), Veronica Lynch (4 saves) and Canniff (2 saves) contributed to the Rebel’s effort as well versus Brewster.
