Yorktown’s hidden gem

Posted

From its earliest settlement through its colonial era and role in the War for Independence, Yorktown’s history mirrors the nation’s own transformation, evolving from a small rural outpost into a vibrant, diverse community with a wide range of local businesses.

Yorktown Museum brings local history to life through immersive exhibits and artifacts that tell the story of the community’s past. Visitors can explore a recreated 18th-century home, an early Mohegan settlement, the history of the Old Put Railroad, and Yorktown’s agricultural roots. The museum also features detailed miniatures, research resources and unique gifts.

The museum is located on the top floor of the Albert A. Capellini Community & Cultural Center at 1974 Commerce St. in Yorktown Heights and is accessible by elevator and stairs. It is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information is available at yorktownmuseum.org.
