Yorktown’s Lily Diaz, who enjoyed a strong junior season this spring with 44 goals and 29 assists as a midfielder, was recognized for it by earning All-American honors.

“Getting the All-American award was incredibly meaningful to me, especially after this season,” Diaz said. “Growing up in a town heavily influenced by lacrosse, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing numerous All-Americans. Each one of them has been an inspiration to me, embodying dedication and achieving this remarkable honor.”

Diaz said the team, which reached the Section 1 Class B final, committed itself to every practice, game and film session, which helped her reach the milestone.

“We gave it our all,” Diaz said. “Seeing my efforts recognized and appreciated through this accolade was incredibly fulfilling. It not only reflects my own success but also acknowledges the unwavering support of my parents, brother, coaches, teammates and the entire community throughout the season, enabling me to achieve my full potential.”

Diaz credited her coaches and teammates for helping her reach All-American status.

“Our coaches genuinely dedicate themselves to helping us achieve our team’s full potential in any way they can,” Diaz said. “Having them by my side each day allowed me to be so successful. Without my teammates, both on and off the field, I wouldn’t have been able to play the way I did throughout the season. From their hands-on support thought the game to their cheers of ‘Jalen Brunson’ from the sidelines, each and every one of my teammates shaped how I approached the season.”

At the end of Diaz’s eighth-grade season, she was pulled up to varsity during its playoff run in 2023, which included a sectional title, and has been on the team since. She will enter her senior year in 2026-27, her fourth full season in a Husker uniform.

She is looking forward to what comes next.

“We have such a special group of girls who I look forward to spending my afternoons with each time the season rolls around,” Diaz said. “This makes it so much more enjoyable and motivates us to play for one another, with an even greater passion. With this special group, next year, I hope to win the section and keep the ball rolling all the way to states. Personally, I’m looking forward to making more memories each day with my teammates from both the wins and losses in my final season at Yorktown.”
